Each year, VIP reaches over 25,000 survivors of domestic violence and gender abuse through its continuum of services.
Community Education and Outreach
VIP’s Community Education and Outreach program, also known as La Voz, works to engage the general public in education and community action efforts against domestic violence.
VIP is the only agency in New York City to operate an English/Spanish hotline, 24-hours a day/7 days a week, including holidays. During FY 2015, our team responded to 9,889 calls. Our hotline counselors can help you access a variety of services including counseling, housing, legal, financial immigration, health, employment, and other domestic abuse related support .
Counseling and Non-Residential Services
VIP’s non-residential services help victims of domestic violence begin to rebuild their lives. Our Compañeras Program—located in Manhattan, Queens, and the Bronx—provides women and children a safe space in which to begin addressing and healing from the trauma of domestic abuse or family violence.
Our residential program offers women and their children a safe place to call home when there are no alternatives. It’s also a vital connective link to life-saving and life-changing services.
Economic Empowerment Services
Although less frequently discussed, economic abuse—using money as a tool for power and control—occurs just as frequently as physical and emotional abuse and can be an overwhelming hurdle for women wishing to lead violence-free lives. VIP aims to promote self-sufficiency through a series of financial literacy and economic empowerment services.
