Emergency: Domestic Abuse Help
VIP is here to help you.
VIP operates New York City’s only live-operated bilingual hotline (Spanish/English), staffed by advocates ready to lend support 24-hours a day, 7 days week, including holidays.
Connect to highly trained counselors who can help with crisis intervention, safety planning, information, and referrals. They can also help you secure shelter space or emergency housing, set up court and police accompaniments, and access other crucial emergency services.
If you or someone you know is in trouble, please call our emergency hotline numbers:
New York City: 1-800-664-5880 (Bilingual/Bilingüe)
New York State: 1-800-942-6908 (Spanish/Español) or 1-800-942-6906 (English)
Orders of Protection
The process to obtain orders of protection can seem overwhelming. VIP will work closely with you and police precincts to file the necessary paperwork. Our advocates and counselors will escort you to court and offer support throughout every stage of the process. You do not have to do this alone. If you need assistance, whether it is for translation or accompaniment support, or you just need more information, please call our toll-free line at 1-800-664-5880.
Find a Safe Place
Everyone deserves a safe place to live. VIP is dedicated to ensuring that all families affected by violence—day or night—have a safe place to call home. With a direct link to emergency shelters throughout the city, VIP will help you find a safe place to sleep tonight. If you or someone you know is at risk of becoming homeless due to domestic abuse or intimate partner violence, please call our toll-free number at 1-800-664-5880.
Get Legal Help
VIP works closely with community agencies that offer legal assistance to victims of domestic abuse and sexual assault. These agencies include:
- Family Justice Centers in Manhattan, Queens, and the Bronx
- Lawyers Alliance for New York
- Bronx Works
- Legal Aid Society
- Legal Services of New York (LSNY)
Our partner agencies have been assisting our families for years with orders of protection, divorce filings, child custody and visitation, child and spousal support, as well as other family-related matters. Victims of domestic abuse who may qualify for immigration concessions also receive assistance in filing U-Visa petitions.
